Three of the ten species of Oystercatchers occur in North America. Principal parts of their diet are oysters, clams, mussels, and various shell-fish. Their strong wedge shaped bills force apart bivalves. Oystercatchers build no nest. The nest is a slight depression in the sand with usually three eggs. The nest is made by squatting on the sand and turning around a few times. The eggs are difficult to spot even though they are in plain sight. They lie on the highest and driest part of the sand bar. The young are the exact color of the sand for an amazingly effective camouflage.
@MaryAClark1 It sure helps cool the summer Florida heat for a while.
