Well that's another thing-to-do before I die ticked off the list :)
On the 5th August 2010 I took my family and my wife's cousin out for a day in Vienna... travelling there and back on the Twin City Liner :)
However the day started off being horrendous....
****
The drive from Žilina to Bratislava in the morning was a nightmare.
All the way Bratislava there was heavy rain, lightning and the sky was a black as night.
The E75 (D1) from Žilina was badly flooded and my car kept aquaplaning, so I had to slow down to a crawl.
...and if things couldn't get any worse my car started to cough and splutter about 20Km's from Bratislava and started to loose power!
The thought had crossed my mind just to turn around a go back to Žilina as the day was going to be a nightmare if it continued to pour with rain and the car died.
Anyway I persevered and limped the car to Bratislava where we parked near the Twin City Liner terminal on the side of the Danube.
We went into the terminal where we picked up the tickets and met up with my wife's cousin.
We then proceeded to the departure point outside.
As if my magic, as we stepped outside the rain stopped and the clouds started to break up!
As the day wore on the weather just got better and better until eventually the sun popped out :)
****
Flying down the Danube was incredible and spending the day in the beautiful city of Vienna was fantastic ;)
This baby travels up to 37 knots/h (69 km/h) powered by two 2 MTU diesel engines and 2 Hamilton water jets which deliver a whopping 1960 HP (1440kW) of power!
Grrrrrrrrr......
This thing screams past the Budapest-Vienna Hydrofoil service!
If you get the opportunity, I thoroughly recommend you go at least one way on the Twin City Liner.
It's not the cheapest, but it's worth every penny!
The crew were so relaxed and friendly and the ship was spotless, it was a fantastic way to travel.
We were allowed to roam freely around the ship (inside and out) and the kids had a great time.
Visit www.twincityliner.com for more information and to book a trip.
P.S. After spending some time fiddling with the engine back in Žilina, the problem turned out to be polluted fuel from a Slovnaft petrol station in Poprad that I filled up at a few days before.
