Yes, they can: Israeli call center employs the disabled

A unique business empowers people with a range of disabilities to succeed in the workplace that traditionally shunned them.

Call Yachol (www.callyachol.co.il) is a one-of-a-kind Israeli call center employing 180 Jewish and Arab disabled adults. In Hebrew, the name means "Everyone Can."

Psychologist Gil Winch, founder of the venture, says there is no reason for these employees' mental or physical limitations to keep them from excelling on the job. But most have suffered from being shunned by mainstream employers and lack self-confidence in their potential. Up to 90 percent of severely disabled adults face chronic unemployment.

Winch implemented a parent-based management model where workers are given affection and have scheduled time for team fun. The unusual arrangement has garnered interest from people in several countries looking to replicate the idea.

Now based Rishon Lezion, future Call Yachol centers are planned for Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

  • Who are the 10 people who dislike this beautiful act of man helping his fellow man? Is there someone so twisted and hateful that they cannot acknowledge good things about some Israel and / or Jewish people?

  • wow thats a real jew doing such a great thing

  • It is a real heaven on earth; we need many more such centers around the world. I would certainly get in touch with the founder(thumbsup to them,really/truely a noble and practical project.),i am doing my engineering studies for now, would like to brainstorm with the founders and VCs to develop many such projects!Love you all.Take care.

  • As a fomer employee I admire both the founders Gil & Efrat Winch and All of the employees, overcoming disability is not somthing obvious ! ,overcoming concerns and embarrassment indicates a lot of courage!.

    I miss working there!

  • be blessed, L-rd with U!

  • Nice one Israel, once again you lead the way, not through ridiculous equality/diversity imposed policies but rather through common decency and valuing individuals.

  • Fantastic-what a model for all to follow. Note that 30% of the employees are Arabs. Nice to see open opportunity for all. This company is to be commended.

  • This Dr. Winch is spot on!! I had a developmentally handicapped daughter who passed away from familial breast cancer at age 34 and could have used an organization like this, had it been around in her time. kol hakavod!
