Anti-NATO crowd burns hotel & border post

Anti-NATO protesters have set ablaze a hotel and former frontier post on the Franco-German border. Riot police fired volleys of tear gas and shock grenades to try to contain growing violence. Hundreds of demonstrators also torched tires, smashed shop windows, and ransacked a petrol station and a pharamacy.

The NATO summit was held 5 kilometers away from the eye of the storm. 28 NATO leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, were meeting to celebrate the 60:th birthday of the organisation and 10 years since the bombing of Yugoslavia. The 10 year celebration peaked with the entrance of Albania into NATO.
