  • @trinicaleb Kiln dried hardens the immediate outside of the wood at an unnatural rate and doesn't give the wood proper amount of time to allow the inside to dry evenly, adding stress to the grain. When the wood is milled, it exemplifies these stresses, causing unnatural movement.. Also in relation to the immediate outside of the wood, the heat causes moisture to swell and burst the cell walls in the grain, again more on the outside, so that wood movement after a finished product is unnatural.

  • @trinicaleb Sorry for jumping in here. KD is the preferred method by many I prefer Air Dried myself when possible. In any case you should let the wood sit at the temperature and relative Humidity that the item you are going to make will live in. In any case wood moves due to temperature and relative Humidity of the seasons. One more note When buying KD lumber be sure the drier does it correctly I will not get into grading here but it has a factor of the quality of lumber you buy

  • @NGinuity I'm new to woodworking but someone was telling me kiln dry is better? does it really warp the wood? not everyone can air dry though..i don't have winter here but some people do

  • Kiln dried? Oh no no...........Maybe if you like things to warp after they are cut. Air dry.....
