A Texas Medical Association physician from Austin reacts to the 21.2-percent cut to physicians' Medicare fees, saying patients will be harmed by Congress' inaction to stop the cut. While Thursday night the House passed an emergency stopgap measure that would have temporarily postponed Medicare cut, the Senate did not — and has adjourned for the weekend. Therefore the Medicare physician payment cuts will happen beginning Monday, March 1, 2010. TMA has long challenged Congress to fix the flawed Medicare payment formula, but for ten years Congress has only found temporary patchwork solutions as the problem grew.
