Christs death has given a new meaning to the death and suffering of each human being, a meaning that is revealed in the resurrection. This was the central message of the homily delivered by the preacher of the Pontitifical Household, Father Raniero Catala-messa, during the liturgy presided over by Pope Benedict in St. Peters Basilica on Friday evening celebrating the Passion of our Lord. The Pope prayed in silence in front of the Cross and after the homily raised it for the faithful to adore and kissed it, having taken off his shoes as a sign of penance.
