Wolf Blitzer on John McCain/Sara Palin
"Situation Room" 5:00pm

TOPIC: negative campaigning, corporate taxes, windfall profits tax, taxes, economy

TRANSCRIPT
[first & key]
BLITZER: It's a key issue. Among other things, you'd like to cut, and correct me if I'm wrong, the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent. Is that right?

MCCAIN: Absolutely. Absolutely.

BLITZER: Because what he says and what Democrats, a lot of Democrats say, that would be a corporate bonanza for ExxonMobil. They would get an extra $4 billion.

Here's the question. Should ExxonMobil be excluded from that cut in the corporate tax rate?

MCCAIN: Oh, of course not. We should be cutting corporate tax for every business in America.

[last]
MCCAIN: That's what they wanted to do. And all this other stuff was worth negotiating. And I will protect as president of the United States the Social Security benefits of retirees and future retirees. I will protect those benefits, and I'll do whatever's necessary to—

  • Someone sounds agitated... lol

It's almost like talking to a grumpy old conservative in a nursing home.

  • I love how he brings up the solution that Reagan and O'Neill came up with-- THEY RAISED TAXES!

    What an old fool.

  • McCain doesn't like the questions because the underline premise is that he is no different on the issues then Bush. He say he'll negotiate with Dems? Yeah, same as Bush ~ he'll veto every thing.

  • why he is so rude and pissy? the guys's just asking questions and they're not bad.

  • Also--as far as McCain saying that "Ireland taxes corporations at 11%", well, I haven't heard of droves of corporations basing themselves out of Ireland!!

Also, read between the lines--he began to say he would "preserve" social security and changed the word to he'd "protect" it...may seem like nothing, but I think he's making a distinction--like 'protecting' it is not as good as 'preserving' it!

Bottom line--Republicans are for corporations, big business, and the wealthiest 1%!

  • WOW....McCain wants to lower taxes for big corporations from 35% to 25%!!?? Corporations, who have shut factories down in this country and sent those jobs to China!? Who are driving small businesses OUT OF BUSINESS!!?? Like the WalMarts who are already subsidized by taxpayers, in that by not providing health insurance to their employess, these employess have to get taxpayer funded health insurance, or go uninsuresd!!?? Unbelievable...

  • Just what we need to help pay down the deficit and help pay for better health care, a corporate tax cut.
