What is it like to grow up gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender in America's heartland, the Midwest? In a region fiercely loyal to traditional values, growing up "other" can be a battle for basic civil rights and resources. Watch JAC Stringer, the young, passionate advocate known as Midwest GenderQueer, as he fights to make a safe space for those of us whose sexual preferences and identities weren't made with a cookie-cutter.

  • wow wtf i went from fighting videos to this gay shit hahaha wtf !

  • As a queer kid from a small conservative town in Michigan, I really do appreciate this and what you're continuing to do.

  • Amazing and exciting. JAC, I love you and I love this video! I lived in Columbus for seven years, and in Cleveland for one year. Even though Columbus has a relatively large LGBT population, bigotry and disenfranchisement were shocking, widespread problems when I lived there--even on campus.

  • wow that purple hair is queer :-)

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your activism!

  • Good going Jac. It's thanks to people like you that civilization continues & improves. It is a sad indictment of society that the intelligent, civilized, motivated, honest, straight forward, pleasant person,(you), has to suffer the sadistic behaviour of people who are not ignorant, they are simply bullies given the excuse to be cruel by a world that says, 'freaks'. They konw full well people are what they are, they just lash out with anger at bitterness at anyone that is not 'normal' .

  • "Trifecta of queerness" is perhaps the greatest phrase I have heard, ever.

  • :,) this makes me feel great to know i'm not the only one who feels like this, I'm 13 years old and I am a gay male trapped in a womans body, and I'm proud!

  • @JustForTheDead Well first off JAC identifies with male pronouns. And secondly, why should he dye his hair? Why should he have to sacrifice who he is and how he wants to present himself just to appease the conservative populace? Queer people are, by our nature, fundamentally different from those who deny us our rights anyway. Why should we try to assimilate ourselves into them and give into being more oppressed than we already are? Just my views, anyway.
