Bill O'Reilly Defends Torture

O'Reilly makes some valid points here why these practices were necessary. The problem with his argument is that the Bush administration repeatedly denied torture charges meaning saying America doesnt torture. Why didnt the Bush administration come out in the open and explain why they were doing it?

Human rights are not a democratic issue, meaning the reason we have human rights is not because everyone agrees with that, but because it is right.

What if a majority of people wanted slavery to come back? Does that make it the good and democratic thing to do?

Article 3 of the Genvea Conventions, look it up. We want the world to love us, but we torture our enemies. Total hypocrisy. If we were smart we would befriend them.

One, opinion polls do not decide the legality of torture. Two, that opinion poll was for torture against Osama bin Laden, not people in Guantanamo Bay, many of whom may not be terrorists, which is hard to know because there haven't been any court trials. We make laws based on foundational morality, not societal utility. Whether we got attacked again based on torture is a non sequitur to the ethics of torture itself, and that's if we grant the argument that torture even works.

Torture is completely despicable as are those who advocate it.
