Marty recorded this song in the 50's and was still singing it in concert in the 70's. I have other versions by different artists but none compare with the great Marty Robbins.

  • I was privalaged to meet Marty in Aberdeen in the 70's and it was one of the best times of my life . I was speechless and believe me that doesn't happen often lol to see him live was something else so thank you for remembering this great man.

  • @annamacable

I met Marty on more than a couple of occasions and I was somewhat overawed to be in the presence of my hero. I was quite tongue tied, but the experience still rates highly in the highlights of my life anna. Even though I have been a fan for several decades, I'm still amazed by not only his wonderful voice and vocal ability, but his wonderful songwriting gift he possessed as well as his sheer charisma.

  • He was the best!

  • By a country mile zaaritha!

  • I'm glad you discovered Marty stebbi1971. I can't see any similarity with Jim Reeves though. Not that I am not a fan of Jim's as well. They were probably the two greatest vocalists ever in Country music in my opinion.

They were contemporaries of each other, but sadly were not friends.

  • Thanks Algermania for your kind comments. I regard anyone who posts favourable comments on my postings as having wonderful taste in music!

  • Actually a JImmie Davis song. Covered by many including Mac Wiseman, Stanley Brothers Riley Crabtree and others. Marty's version is the best. I have never heard this recording. A version of this song appeared on Marty's self titled album from 1958. This is howerver a different recording which sounds like it was recorded at around the same era (mid to late fifties). The rythm is different. Was this recording ever released commercially?
