Agree that it's widespread across several areas of business. However, in the auto-repair industry this sort of thing is as old as the auto-repair industry itself. I've caught mechanics - not just Jiffy Lube, but from several different facilities and companies - pulling off crap like this. Oil-changes and similar services are easy to scam because the very reason you're there - to get your car serviced - means you probably seldom look at these items yourself.
