Over the long term, REIT returns exceed those of broader market benchmarks, according to NAREIT Vice President of Research & Industry Information Brad Case. REIT returns have averaged 10.6% per year over the past 10 years, according to Case, which is a similar figure to that over the past 20 and 30-year time periods as well.
