I played an arrangement of this beautiful piece in the park of the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu this past December. Needless to say, there wasn't a dry eye on the premises. Such a gorgeous piece.
Spectacular. Sitting here in tears. I've always loved this setting of America, the Beautiful but this is by far the best recording of it that I have found. Thank you for uploading it.
Just the other day on NPR, I heard the Bay State Winds (Air force clarinet quartet) play this. It got me onto a jag of listening to many arrangements of this wonderful song. Finally I have arrived at what I feel is the granddaddy of all arrangements. The strings give such a lush quality! Thank you, Maestro Dragon.
Wow, we did this in All-State Choir in 1974 in Idaho...and he conducted the orchestra, choir and band all at once. It was awesome. I felt honored to be in the Choir...... pam in idaho
I was fortunate to have played this wonderful arrangement in an orchestra that Carmen Dragon himself conducted. This was 1972 at an Honor Orchestra in Stockton, CA. The orchestra was huge (300 pieces) and I was honored to be principal second violin, especially since I had only been playing for two years. After the performance, Maestro Dragon shook the hands of all the string principals, as is customary. I'll never forget the experience and how exciting it all was.
Carmen Dragon the conductor of this compilation is "Captains" dad of the group Captain and Tennille(hit single "Love will keep us together") Married for 35+ yrs.
What a great Hollywood celebrity marriage record. You won't hear much talk about that!
Believe it or not, but Carmen Dragon is my grandfather. Its inspiring to hear his music and see these comments. I never met him but his music gives me a glimpse of what he was like. This brings back memories of my family crying in our living room when they played his music on television.
My parents played recordings of Carmen Dragon & the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra when I was young. Still a youth, I later played this arrangement while they were in the audience. Inspiring falls short of describing the experience, and I can only image what Mr. Dragon felt. After many years, this is still a treasure, along with the work of Sousa and so many other creative Americans. They do us proud, and we should remember!

Song still gives me shivers.....it's been almost 40 years since I played this song
in Los Angeles, CA and the most exciting thing ....Carmen Dragon was directing.

Beautiful! This is considered to be pretty much the best arrangement of this song.
