Ever thought you could sing? Not being able to sing hasn't stopped a number well known pop artists achieving chart success, so what are they doing to their voices? As you'd expect, computers are involved. Tayfun King set out to test a new piece of software that gives producers a tool that lets them change the sound of the individual notes sung.

  • It's really cool. Shouldn't be overused though

  • just like an analog delay pedal and spring reverb and transistor distortion emulated the bombast of seeing a band in a club, melodyne will become a creative tool that opens doors to the creative. Even great singers that I have worked with ask for a little melodyne, don't lean on it too hard & it is inspiring. Thta real performance you talk about is enhanced by compressors, eq, tubes etc- u like the sound of an elec guitar straight into the board? Purists are impure, just as perfection is a myth.

  • A funny thing is, that u can download "FL Studio Demo" free and it can do the same :D

  • The guy at the end looks like my old college teacher Ramon Goose O_O

  • @Andybaby well thats a bit overdramatic dont you think:P? create good music. and love it.

  • tayfun is a real dream boat

  • record company called what? - fat fucks? lmao!!

  • In the old days, they used to have what we used to call 'singers'.

  • this stupid idiot reporter doesn't understand anything. Cher has used autotune for creativity on her voice, the first one is for the telephone alike sound effect and the second one for detortion cause she can sing amazingly.

  • Pitch-correct software just corrects pitch and vibrato.

  • To me it's the difference between using a piano or a synthesizer: one doesn't need tuning, and uses technology to create new sounds to music.

Remember the scare in the days of glam rock when they thought synthesizers would take over the market? The same thing's happening: all we're doing is widening our horizons as to how we make music.

  • Too many people want to be pop stars...
