This pranayama exercise is great for clearing negativity from the mind and the body, ventilating the lungs and cleansing the system. This is also known as the Whistle Breath, due to the sound you make while inhaling and the fact that you purse your lips as though you are about to whistle.

You can do this pranayama in either a standing or seated position. For the greatest results, do this breath at the end of your practice, just prior to Svasana; your asana practice will loosen up any toxins and negativity in the body and this breath will help release them. Duration: 5 min

Benefits: increased lung capacity, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, increases vitality in the body, promotes self-healing and inner calm.

Contraindications: avoid this breath if you suffer from chronic chills or constipation

  • The best way to cleansing your breath is just to go out to the greeny grassy area to

    have a enough clean unpolluted oxygen for you cleansing breath and I am not going

    to say to her at the end (namaste) because thats means you are the God..hahaahha

  • I used to do a Ayurvedic breathing exercise and I would like to start doing it again but I want to be sure that I'm doing it correctly. I recall that it took 15 minutes, breathing through the nose and exhaling through the mouth in very slow drawn out breaths... I recall making a Darth Vader sort of sound when exhaling and feeling as if I'd been through a hard run when the session was over. Can anybody clarify the details of this exercise? Peace.
