  • Wow - this is a representation - The character is not Jesus - he represents a teacher figure. The show is written for 10 parts. Judas and John the Baptist are represented by the same person. Every production of this show for the last 30 years has been 10 people - do your homework before your go all negative on someone next time...

  • I'm sorry but I have to ding you on the 10 people thing. I have seen a 20-25 people cast that worked and looked very well! They added more people to the deciples and they had teh people around play other "characters". It made the resurection sooooo much cooler!

  • Doesn't change the fact that the show is written for 10 people...For a director to adding to pander to auditionees or to appease parents at a school generally waters down the actual meaning of the piece - since you dont' get attached to the characters...

  • I like the idea of a classroom. Stephen Schwartz did an amazing job keeping this show as open to different ideas as possible, but it always seems the same. I like the different ideas here :) And, the show was originally written for 10 characters. 8 stock characters + Jesus + John/Judas :P 5 girls and 5 guys. BUT GOOD JOB, ANYWAYS

  • No,not twelve, but thirteen. And who in the name of all that is holy supposedly directed this? It's just so freakin' static. An ounce of discretion regarding casting might have helped, too. Crap.Is this what passes for regional theatre nowadays?

  • Just for reference sake.. The show has 10 parts... If there's anymore then they just added people cause the cast wasn't strong enough most likely..

    BTW, GREAT AUDIENCE!! (Sarcasm)

  • @Bmackkc Well if it did (and i mean the true message) then that is good but i would have to say that the person must very attentive to see the meaning through all the slapstick and magician tricks. But ill reword my statement: ...choreography and acting that make it hard to see the story and message clearly.

  • @1stNightingale Kind of a strong statement..."story and message a joke." Maybe they're not pros, but I guarantee you that the story and message got out, and in so doing, changed lives.

  • @Shaunpuffyrice Shaun this is one of the reasons I don't usually read peoples' comments of high school/college/amateur stage productions, or solo/small ensemble stuff. So much of it is nit picky, irrelevant, or small-minded. "wah wah wah the tempo was too fast, the sopranos are overpowering, we did this in my junior high choir, blah blah blah." I hope some day these children can learn to appreciate art and other peoples' offerings without such drivel.

  • @Shaunpuffyrice I ahve to admit that did happen just a little in our one but the message was still strong just not the characters.

  • Interesting set but rally low energy music and again choreography and acting that just make the story and message a joke.

  • the blocking was stagey and the movements stiff. Too bad, because the main vocals in this number were superior. Congrats to him.

  • your set looks awfully close the set we used for the alonso HS production back in the day, i was wondering if perhaps you were inspired by it? (i only ask because you guys are in tampa too, lol)
