Final Conflict- Cage Match for the NWA Tag Title 1 of 5

You've followed the Road to Greensboro, now here's what it all led to. Final Conflict, March 12, 1983. Cage match for the NWA Tag Team titles. Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood take on champs Sgt. Slaughter and Don Kernodle. If Steamboat and Youngblood don't win they have to break up as a tag team.

Most of this chapter is entrances and introductions and the bell doesn't ring until around the 7:40 mark of this chapter.

Also, I'm saying it now so you know up front. There is a couple second gap in the recording during the finish. Consider yourself warned.

Steamboat and Youngblood were one of the greatest teams ever--so underrated...and Ricky Steamboat is maybe the greatest tag wrestler ever....he had so many reigns (5 with Jay Youngblood) with so many different partners and made whatever team he was on that good...thanks for this!

yes, vince has destroyed a great thing.these days a 2 hour wrestling show has more talking than wrestling.maybe one day these matches will be put on dvd and sold to all the fans who love this type of wrestling.

I never understood why cage tag matches operated under traditional tag rules. IMO a cage tag match should be contested under texas tornado rules so they can pull out all the stops.

actually, if my memory is correct, this feud went on for another couple weeks. maybe a month or two longer. these two teams wrestled cage match after cage match after this match with steamboat/youngblood getting the wins. it eventually all came to an end with a stipulation being if kernodle and slaughter lost they could never wrestle as a tag team again. that's when slaughter left for the wwf.

I guess Slaughter left for the WWF not too long after this
