Could be impulse... Or it could just be that they actually like the game and don't consider mirrors a key factor of a game's quality, and disagree with your "games have regressed" remark.

I love mirrors, but it's not beyond me to imagine why newer games lack 'em. I figure it's probably a LOT harder to make good-looking, efficient AND stable mirrors when you're dealing with all the fancy post-processing effects and whatever else has become standard today. I dunno though, I'm not a game designer.

Functioning mirrors and such are just cosmetic, though, and there are many modern games that feature them. In most essential ways, HR was a fantastic prequel to Deus Ex, made with love and care. Especially when you remember that the sequel, the one developed by the same dudes who made the original DEx, was Invisible War.
