Simple test to show the flicker of an European neon tube (50 Hertz mains frequency) as seen through a PAL camcorder (50i) and through a "NTSC-y" camera (30p and 60p).

  • Great video - I was looking to by a 30P/60P camcorder for UK (50Hz) and I have to think again now!

  • That's exactly why I made it. :)

However, for what it's worth, the Canon Legria HF series _does_ have a peculiar shutter priority settings that seems to be made for this very issue. The PAL version has a 1/120" shutter speed setting (60 Hz * 2), while the NTSC version has a 1/100" setting (50 Hz * 2). I cross-checked the user manuals, and I suppose that they were made for us . ;)
