University of Maryland School of Law Professor Donald Gifford, JD, has written a new book that takes a critical view of lawsuits filed by governments against the makers of hazardous products on behalf of their constituents. "Suing the Tobacco and Lead Pigment Industries" (University of Michigan Press, 2010) makes the case that public health battles are often fought more effectively through the legislative and regulatory systems.

  • urges you to watch this. Lead poisoning is a major problem in Baltimore at various levels. Crusading attorneys are making a mint on lead cases because juries are sympathetic. Lead pant also is a major economic detriment. Liability issues have led to a sharp increase in abandoned properties.
