  • Well at least she did achieve her goal of going out on top and not letting her character get stale. Cheers definitely did get stale in its last couple years. Remember, Seinfeld also ended his show after 8 full seasons and no one really begrudges him that. Maybe Shelley could have stayed and kept the quality up for 2 or 3 more years but that's probably about all she might have missed out on. From a purely financial perspective though, her decision remains a legendary misstep in Hollywood.

  • Yea, I wish Shelley has done 2 more years this way I would have 7 years of DVD instead of 5. After she left I stopped watching Cheers she just made that show what it was and love her so much, now I am watching every movie she has ever made. She's my favourite actress of all time. I wonder what she's up to these days.

  • "Brady Bunch the highlight of her career"? You must be kidding. I liked all of the movies I saw with her in it. Also I heard that some of the big blockbusters of Bet Midler and Whoopie Goldberg were originally written for her.

  • @scudder99 She left to look after her new born child and to spend more time with her family. Yeah, really selfish

  • I liked both Shelley Long and Kirstie Alley but I got tired of the Diane character; it was getting old to me. When Kirstie came, it was a breath of a fresh air. I thought Shelley was going to be a big time movie actress but like the commentator said, it was hit or miss. Hollywood wasn't ready for that type and still isn't.

  • I never knew she overdosed

  • @Yobachi2007 Perhaps, in all fairness, you should drill holes in your head to let the demons out. Or maybe a glass of water. Chill, you inky little slacker.

  • @scudder99

So you determine the course of your life and what job you keep depending on your co-workers. Clearly you're the dumb failure.

And what a wonderful legacy you have as an idiot on youtube.

  • @Yobachi2007 She was dumb then, and she is dumb now. Her character was a success, she was not. And I was thinking about her fellow actors, not her audience, when I called her selfish. I love her work as Diane, and that's about it. What a legacy! Good grief.

  • @scudder99

She's not an idiot for leaving, it's not like she was there a short time and ran before the show broke. Sometimes enough is enough, and when you're done with something, you're just done.

And Selfish? Do you choose what job you stay at and the course of your life based on your customers? It's not her duty to live her life for you, get your own life.

Who cares if she's nothing in the industry now, she already won 20 years ago.

  • She was an idiot to leave. Very selfish and egocentric move. I'm glad she gave Kirstie her chance (although she is a nut job, herself.)) She had a great character, Diane, but as a person, Shelley seemed like a blank. I wonder what the real story is. As it is, she's a nothing in the industry. Maybe she's found a nice corner of the world to thrive in, and that's just fine.

  • Damn I love Diane! Shelley seems to be one who has no sense of Humor (just like Streisand).. No wonder the crew loved Kirstie who had a crazy sense of humor and fit right in!
