Actually, you may be missing the point. I can carry the same stuff I always carry because I don't carry much. Groceries. Dry cleaning. This is not my gravel hauler/landscaping truck.

We want to be able to readily access the cells. Normally, with a truck you put them under the bed and install a bed lift hydraulic to raise the bed so you can access the cells. The "Avalanche" form precludes this.

Hub motor engineering's not too tough. All they'd have to do is use the same type of bearing already in vehicle hubs and seal them the same way. The motor just goes around it. It's 2011, engineering wise, hub motors are child's play. The motor can just be sealed the same way an engine's sealed at the shaft.

Manufacturers are afraid of hub motors because they'd mean far fewer parts to sell over the life of the car. Same reason they're afraid of electrics.

what about under the bed?

or maybe you can get a smart looking cap on the bed so you can carrythe same stuff as you could with empty bed after you put in the batteries and raised floor

1st to post!! I wish i had the money for an ev! Next best think is a cheap 250 cc bike, 70 mpg best I can do, I hear 5$ gas in Chicago this summer....
