  • Howard McNear was a brilliant actor. Look at the three expressions that flit across his face in an instant when Dillon asks him if he's ever been broke and hungry.

  • Howard McNear, in the mustache and derby, was the original Doc on the radio Gunsmoke then later became Floyd the Barber on ''The Andy Griffith Show." Wish he had a scene with Milburn Stone.

  • Matt needs to beat his ass

  • That darn jail cell window always seems to compound the drama for the inmate

  • want me to go hit him with a stick or something? LMAO

  • love this show

  • This is a fine example of music score complementing the action. Often, Gunsmoke episodes are full of extraneous orchestral clutter; here music is employed to full effect -- as when Matt is searching for the brother -- precisely because we aren't subjected to it throughout.

As for the piano, that's a good question... I think I've seen it played but can't be sure. But it always seems to be the same damn tune.

Howard McNear also played Doc on the radio Gunsmoke

  • The Andy Griffith Show meets Gunsmoke

  • The restauranteur's grandson had a barber shop in Mayberry.

  • The resturant owner is the guy who played Floyd the barber on Andy Griffith.
