Capri 25 2006 National Championship Regatta -- Ham-It-Up! (#370) sustains a downwind spinnaker disaster and almost sinks and pitches a crew member overboard during the recovery of the spinnaker. The video is recorded unattended using the Horizon-True mount on the stern pulpit!

  • Brilliant video! Creat position for the camera, text narration worked really well!

I'll not comment on the sailing side of things other than to say... I like stuffing around with spinnakers heaps and have broached a few times BUT you have to make sure everbody on the boat knows what they are in for! Don't go surprising people!

  • One of the best vids showing what happens on a round down.....have any vids on a round up?

    thanks for the upload..

  • If only they could douse the kite as well as they did the kid at 2:48.

  • Thanks for posting this "how not to" video". That took guts because of the merciless commentary you will likely suffer. Had the skipper moved seconds later likely the boom would have struck him on the crash gybe, luck (timing) was with you there. Perhaps the crew in blue PFD should learn more than to sit in silent witness, like move his ass to weather on a floundering boat.

  • There are so many things in this video than allow me to be able to call most people on board completely and utterly incompetent and stupid.

  • To the crew of this boat - Well done! Well done for having the guts to post this...anything online is bound to get some critique - mostly by people who have never been in a situation.

"Everybody slow down for a second!" These are the best lines in the video. Those are life saving words. I applaud the skipper for that.

I'm sure there has been many comments already. Round the boat...up. If you feel broach coming, blow the vang.

You guys get a +1 from me though.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • female skipper= fail. It looks like their in last place too. haha. take off that yellow life jacket

  • Thanks for this video. A lot of comments from people thinking they'd have done better... However I learn something from these clear errors.

    Thanks for your humilty

  • Poor decisions by the skipper. Dangerous decisions or lack there of.

  • Poor girl at the helm looks like she wanted to vomit! Just last night I sailed Lake St Clair and was pit..24 ft Catalina with chute up in 30 knots. We broached and I had to blow the spin halyard which still managed to catch my finger and leave nasty ropeburn. But this was in a storm, at night, and our worst injury. I agree with other posts, seems like this crew learned some good lessons that trip!

  • looks like they were running Way too deep of an angle for what appears to be about 15 knots of wind and if she hadnt of turned so abrubtly when the boat started to heel then nothing would of happened.. in a capri you can hold some fairly hot angles with a chute but they seem to have enough trouble with ddw

  • the skipper is the biggest fucking retard ive ever seen
