@RatPfink66 What I do know is that OkeH had one of the best sounding studios and already in the pre-electric period could produce some of the best sounding recordings. Also by stepping into the electric process later than the parent company can have had positive effects on the recording quality. What I still find amazing is that on 78s from this period the sound quality is better than any - indeed all - commercially available phonographs could reproduce.

@syncopeter Yeah. what was it OKeh did that their bigger sister Columbia couldn't or didn't? Were there some proprietary processes involved - or is it all collector mystique?

Incredible sound for 1928. Okeh sure had magicians working for them. A newbie for me, never heard it before.

great version....i think,vtm, that the instrument you are talking about is the cymbal being hit with a metal brush used by the drummer. thank you prozoot.

what's the musical instrument that sounds like a metal gong and is the very last note on this recording? it's also featured a lot at the beginning. it almost has an airy quality like a bellows.
