@orthdoc Most of the replies don't really explain the saying very well. I could be wrong and all, but I think what he means by lick, is to hit, as in when my mother would ask me if I wanted a "lickin" when I was acting up(aka spanking.) When you take this theory into practice, he's basically saying something to the effect of 'He isn't worth shooting' with beating replacing shooting in this version of the phrase.
