Oil burning, an application of:

- Lavoisier's law of conservation of mass / matter (1789) which states that the mass of a closed system of substances will remain constant, regardless of the processes acting inside the system. An equivalent statement is that matter changes form, but cannot be created nor destroyed. This implies that for any chemical process in a closed system, the mass of the reactants must equal the mass of the products.

and

- The first law of thermodynamics (conservation of energy) which states that the increase in the internal energy of a system is equal to the amount of energy added by heating the system, minus the amount lost as a result of the work done by the system on its surroundings. In other words: energy can be transformed (changed from one form to another), but it can neither be created nor destroyed.

The same amount of mass / matter / energy (from the Sun, the atmosphere, and Earth) needed to grow the life to produce the oil was released when it burned.

  • Hey, man, long time! This was very interesting. Sounds like this event is "anti-evolution" ...reversing the process. Ironically the burning fires are kind of pretty. Patrick Stewart has a great voice. Very sad about the destructive and wasteful event.

  • Hi Steven :)

Yeah, it is kind of a waste of a limited energy source usable by Man. It took millions of years under strict circumstances to create this oil we can use, and only one despotic idiot (S. Hussein) to waste it. Useless destruction of the environment... huge doses of carbon flowing back into the atmosphere, changing the precious state of equilibrium in which life as we know it today can exist and prosper.

That being said, I'm already working on a new video so stay tuned! :)

  • I first released this video in May 2007 but I quickly took it down because there were things in it I didn't like. After editing it, here it is again.

  • I'll admit that I think you are too easily persuaded tempemonkey.

  • Im begging to become skeptical of human caused global warming after watching the video called The Great Global Warming Swindle.... Have you seen that video? What do you think?
