Rwanda: Army and Police Take Action to Fight Violence against Women

In 2007, the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) placed sexual and gender-based violence as a major threat to its national security. Partnering with UNIFEM, the RDF launched a campaign to help and respond to violence against women, drawing on a successful initiative of the Rwandan police that, in 2005, opened a special office to deal with gender-based violence.
