Launching of the 400' USS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11) from the NASSCO shipyard on San Diego Bay. Seeing a 700-ft long, 100-ft wide, 41,000-ton ship slide down the launch ramp like it was a toy.

The ship is named after Captain Washington Chambers (1856-1934), the U.S. Navy officer who oversaw the development of the Navy's aviation program back when even the Wrights were saying it could never be done).
