  • I ordered the lutefisk from a company in Minnesota, they also sent walleye and lefse. the lutefisk was actually so much better than i remembered as a child. Glad we did it before my moms dementia got worse.

  • "It smells like home" made me giggle. My brothers and I always had to flee the house when my mother started making lutefisk. I'm now in my late 20s and I've still not tasted it. The smell is haunting me.

Great to see your mother(?) enjoying it, though. Best wishes!

  • @merlechmoose Well I hope someday you will try. I finally did and it wasn't as bad as I always thought it was, but do not save in refrig until the next day. thanks for the kind response.

  • lol this is great, thank you for sharing! Wow, Norwegian-Americans are WAY more into the whole lutefisk thing than Norwegians themselves, it's fascinating how old traditional stuff like that is dying out in the country of origin (for a reason? lol) but is kept alive and well in other countries.

  • Thank you for the response. We actually found more lutefisk and are going to have it for Mothers Day. She is in nursing home now. I remember complaining so much when we were little of the smell of it on Christmas Eve.

  • Frying the lutefisk? We boile it.. hahaha love the song.. Greetings from Norway.. :)

  • We aren't good singers. But actually baked the lutefisk and fried the walleye that came with the package

  • My grandfather made every Christmas when I was young, but I never had the guts to try it. Same with herring, which I tried when I got older. Probably never get another chance at lutefisk though.

  • Get the guy tapping rythm on Mom's head.

  • Hahaha, this is priceless! N.B., I went to St. Olaf college, which had a traditional Norwegian Christmas dinner before the Christmas concert. But I'm not Norwegian, and I never went near the lutefisk. (I did like the lefse, though.)
