Starting your won seeds indoors over the winter is a great way to save money, get stronger plants, earlier blooms, and a longer growing season. An affordable and sustainable way to do that is by starting your seeds in recycled toilet paper rolls!

  • I don't have nearly enough toilet paper rolls. I should get busy pooping!

  • I have a giant bag of TP rolls hanging on my doorknob in the restroom now :) I was thinking, wouldn't it be easier to fill them up with soil buy taking the roll and pressing it into the container of soil instead of trying to sprinkle or shovel it into the rolls?

  • I've tried this before, but the TP rolls always get moldy and it ruins my seedlings XD Do you have any tips?

  • great idea, thanks

  • Very cool idea. Very cool indeed.

  • @seoulsistah53 ... Home Depot carry's a product called Hypergrow, a coconut coir product, that expands to 2 1/2 cubic ft.. This is a renewable resource replacement for peat moss. Normally you mix this with vermiculite (or perlite) and potting soil or compost.

  • Awesome idea! Saves trash, and moeny I'd spend on other germinating media. Money saved to help pay for the electric the florescent grow-lights will use until after first frost! Thanks!

  • This was soo Kool I always wanted to do this but never wanted to pay for those peat pots. I heard of newspaper as well but I am too lazy to make them into pots. Who knew! paper toilet rolls I have tons of these! Thanks Garden girl!
