Old Rusty, Mart's Flathead powered Model A Roadster has been sitting under a tarp. It's very wet. Mart starts the old 21 stud flathead and takes her out for a spin.

Update: Punch this into a search - Flathead Meltdown 21 stud grudge match - You will see me in Old Rusty beating my pal Gavin in his 32 truck - both running old 21stud flatties.

He ran a 20 I ran a 18. i later squeaked a high 17.. Not bad for a 21stud on a single carb through a 3 speed and banjo axle.

Oh year - it still rattles when cold.

Thanks for all the comments fellas. The car is now running a new built french flatty with a 4" stroke crank. It also has a newly rebuilt 39 box. It's running great, except for a bit too much blowby. I'll be pulling the pistons and rings to rehone the bores. I ran 17.03 at the Nostalgia Drags on my second run, which I was pleased with.

one of the pistons is in backwards, WHAT? does this mean the cyl will run in the other direction?

It's not a biggie. The wrist pin is offset slightly to one side to reduce noise when cold. One of mine is in backwards so it's a littlle noisy at startup. I always baby it when cold so I don't worry about it.

the engine had been running well for a long time before I noticed the odd piston, so I left it alone.

Pull the plugs and fill cyls with ATF,let it sit for a day,spin it with no plugs,fire it up. No kidding it works done it a hundred times (buy and sell old cars)
