It's very quiet, but I'd be guessing it's the air compressor, with a bit of muck in it making the unusual sound.
One more thing that would never have been allowed to happen on 24/12/1972. :(

The phone cam didn't do a great job of picking the sound up, plus it was 3/4 done by the time I started filming/recording it. ;)

Thanks for that, I was guessing something like that, never heard any EMU make that noise though. Probably clogged up, like you've said.
That's right, they really don't look after the Hitachi's these days...
