Actually, the original was written by Joe South for Billy Joe Royal which came out in 1967. Deep Purple re-recoded it in 1968 and then again in 1988.

I like Deep Purple and all but their version of the song is my least favorite. Joe South's original was amazing and Kula Shaker did an outstanding cover to the soung in 1997, which was featured in the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" soundtrack soon after.

i think kula shaker are a good band but if some people like them because their style of songs and image is connected to drug use then i think thats sad

like in the beatles songs theres so much disturbing noises and lyrics and distorted images which dont seem nomal
