Samurai berserker

this movie is not a "samurai" movie. it is a study of violence and insanity that was (is?) inherent in a socio-political system. The bushido ideal is completely ignored by Ryunosuke; he slices and dices his way through his growing insanity, because the violent nature of the culture allows him to do so. he really is nothing more than a Travis Bickle of the late Tokugawa era, driven to the extremity of his actions by a morally demanding, yet socially corrupt world. Two words: "Columbine Massacre"

One of my favourite films! Tatsuya Nakadai is amazing in this movie. I have never seen actor play so well a complete lunatic.

Oh my God... this movie is very very fantastic that I've ever seen. I like samurai movie, but this one is so amazing..!!!

check out some of the older Zatoichi movies. They happen to be my favorites. Shintaro Katsu's Zatoichi is my personal favorite. There are some from the 60s as well in B&W that are great!

"Shinsengumi: assassins of honor" is pretty great too.
