This model and the 635D have incredible S/N ratios and frequency respones. The GX series XTAL-Ferrite heads are virtually wear out proof.

When Audio Arts Recording was founded in the early 80s, I used a pair of these consumer grade machines in our mobile recording rig in leiu of more expensive 1/2 track recorders as back up machines because of their transparent clarity and gentle tape handling characteristics.

Made many live Blues and Jazz recordings from performances captured on the 635Ds.

Donna Fargo---what a lovely lady and talent she was back then---sounds like a good recorder/player-----can tapes or reels be bought anymore? I heard the manufacturers don't even make Reel to Reel tapes anymore

Hello, I have a GX 636, and the left channel does not work in playback. I know it's not the playback head. I am thinking it could be leaking capacitors in the amplifier circuit. Does any one have any ideas or suggestions otherwise?

I have the same machine with dust cover. This is MUCH more reliable machine than the 635D that it's based on. But, have you experienced any problems like distortion in one channel during record?
