A very early edition of the classic teatime quickfire quiz hosted by Bob Holness.

  • Bob Holness had a wonderful way of dealing with the rather juvenile contestants.

  • RIP Mr. Holness

  • @bluebear1985 I'm afraid that the sort of new show might well end up dragging up the depths of popular trivia and celebrity trash culture. It's no surprise that academic standards across both sides of the pond have declined precipitously and seen both our countries fall down the global education table.

  • @takharov1 It for sure outlasted the American version created for adult contestants. When they first started the show in 1980, it only lasted about a year and a half. An attempt to revive it in 1987 only lasted four months. I hear that a new version will soon air in the UK, and I hope that does well.

  • These children are far more intelligent than most of their current peers. And a show that promoted learning and enjoyment at the same time a rarity amongst current childrens television.

RIP Bob. A true gentleman of the old school.

  • @RobinCarmody in which areas? because tvs was one week behide showing the first series., so if that is the TVS date it would have been 29th September for some ppl and if this not then TVS showed this on 13 October at 3.30pm :P

  • RIP Bob. But did big-mouth Simon beat big-hair Chris... Bob looked a bit uncomfortable at times, nothing that a quick adjustment of his specs couldn't fix! Great memories of teatime quizzing.

  • RIP Bob you were our childhood x

  • RIP Bob.

I liked seeing the old Central logo at the start of the show. A lot of the ITV companies had their idents at the start of programmes at one time. I watched Blockbusters a lot in the late 80s and early 90s.

  • Can I have a R.I.P please Bob. Very sad news is this. Was what I looked forward to after I got in from school.

  • RIP Bob Holness. 80s youth gameshow icon and possibly the first ever James Bond (on radio an way before any movies).
