absolutely ridiculous. You'd never be able to access your data for so many different reasons... ever hear of a clean room? Your KITCHEN is not clean. If your data is important enough, please don't try this.

@3tasker1 The hard drive he is using is a hard drive that he is never planning on using again. When working with the platters they have to stay perfectly clean, not even a spec of dust can be on there and definitely not finger prints. DO NOT touch the platters on a hard drive you are trying to save.

after you have put the platters back in does it matter if you spin the platters like you did after you had transfered the platters?
Probably a dumb question but i am going to be doing this sometime next week so need all the info i can get lol
Many Thanks
Chris

lol great idea man, i'd still be terrified the platters would move though.. but definitely cheaper than buying a multi platter tool.

Wonderful!!!
wouldn't ribs on the can prevent some of platters from holding? were you able to successfully change platters on high-capacity multi-platter drive?
Yeah, defiantly don't touch the platters!! Keep everything spotless...

The platters don't come up as far as the ribs. I have used the tool and it worked on a 500GB HDD...
