In my opinion, no magical girl anime comes close to Princess Tutu, but this one was my guilty pleasure.

@adventure4567 Sailor Moon was an huge impact on the magical Girl Genre. But It was not the first Manga or Anime to have an object to transform. Akazukin Chacha, the heroine had a necklace to transform(and also a bracelet and a ring which were worn by her friends) and this was made in the 1991. While Sailor Moon was made in the 1992 so Sailor Moon never started the idea.

@ninjamitsuki I know, I just don't watch a lot of anime anymore. I would liek to watch it, but I REALLY don't like the animation style and I always look at that xD As far as darker storylines are concerned, Uta~Kata and Mai HiME are gems in the magical girl genre.

But I'm warning you... When I say dark, I mean D-A-R-K.

Not to be hating on all anime's that have transformation in it tht uses a compact or a wand to ransform with but i think they all follow Sailor Moon and tbh they can't top Sailor Moon because it in one of top anime in my opinion and srry if i offended anyone who likes this anime but i don't like anime that copy other anime styles is pisses me off

@missmuggledetector Fullmoon was awesome, but I think the animation style in the anime is really ugly... I dunno, it looks weird. Arina's manga art is beautiful, but all looks the same indeed. And I really wish I had the time to watch that anime, it seems so awesome and I heard so much about it. The only magical girl with a darker storyline that I have come acroos (and loved) was Mai HiME and that was a shounen, so not girly at all xD
