Simon was diagnosed with autism and mental retardation. His parents were told that he would never talk or communicate. They found The Son-Rise Program, an autism treatment program developed by Barry Neil Kaufman and Samahria Lyte Kaufman, co-founders of The Option Institute and the Autism Treatment Center of America. Simons parents began a Son-Rise Program for him when he was only 2 years old. Now he is about to go to college and looks forward to getting married and raising a family one day. Listen to him tell his own story of what it was like to be autistic and his recovery from autism.

  • I was expecting to see his treatment. Is there videos to show how he was before son-rise and how he progressed over the course of treatment?

  • @blondibee72 You may be looking for the other video of Simon which shows footage of him before, during, and after his Son-Rise Program. It was released after this video and is quite inspiring. You can view it by searching "Autism: Full Recovery With the Son-Rise Program"

  • @CCHarmon88 However, I would like to change some of the NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS of Autism- such as the language delays. Not because I want him to be "normal", but because I want him to live to his potential. He wants to drive, be a chef, play sports- all things he would need to gain verbal/ social skills to truely excel at. His Autism gives him amazing talents, skills and a unique personality, so treating Autism, for me, just means treating those limtiing factor so he can excel.

  • @CCHarmon88 Please do not take this as being rude, argumentative or insulting, but I disagree with this point you have made. My 6 year old son is Autisitic- He suffers mainly from severe language/ communication delays and social limitations. His daily livin skills and cognitive skills are much less limited, close to normal, and his IQ is 71. I do not wish to "change" my son, he will always be Autistic and that is part of the wonderful person he is.

  • austism when ur older when u look at a person with autism u wouldnt even think they have it unless u lived with that person for a while i was mistaken with add which medication made me cross eyed.I feel sorry for my husband i took money out of the atm just recently ,5 mins later was trying like 3 times to get my money out of my atm card.i looked like a fricken idiot infront of everyone it isnt fun when stuff like that happens.esspecially mind block 1 or 2 mins after u think of saying something

  • @Reichieru1 I strongly support your opinion. Many autistic people can actually speak and be very accurate dealing with grammar and maths, but their social skills are always underdeveloped. My 10 yrol. son pretends that he feeds a toy dragon and even baby- talks to it, however he takes no notice of other children. Regards.

  • "Cure" is an inaccurate discription of learning how to live with autism. Basically it's a over-optimistic dream scenario sold by certain organisations because being labled with "something" is bad.

Just learn how to respect people. All kinds of people. There is optimism and hope even though it can't really be called a "cure". It's just a word in this instance.

  • @Miaulagata What does being a parent have to do with understanding autism? Even if this guy does have a mild form of autism and was just delayed in his language development, maybe he does still have some problems with social communication, understanding body language, and metephorical language. Maybe he has some other problems that are part of autism that are just very subtle and not easy to notice, that he has learned to manage.

  • i was cured from rdi

  • I was autistic and i was cure..
