Ok. SO I wish that you could have seen her trial yesterday, as it looked more snazzy, she rocks at finishes and positions (and they work like secondary reinforcers to the heeling), but todays course seemed to be all heeling. AND I screwed up completely! Im surprised the judge didnt deduct points! I got lost right after the serpentine weave in the middle of the course and added in a little 360! (and a swear word!) looking for the next sign, I was distracted as I almost lost Kikos attention to some enticing odor!

I've got to say, how HARD it is not to trip doing this! As with a chihuahua, if you look up for 1 second, the loose leash goes under their front feet. I really struggle to practice with her on leash, as it is so much fun off leash, so I am very glad her next trial will be off lead! :) We will both be much happier!

I was very proud of my little Keeks showing off how the clicker training method WORKS! Not only that but gives you the advantage, as every one she competed against had working dogs on choke chains that looked so sad/stressed/or like a zombie.

I have never used any forms of positive punishment intimidation, or reprimands on purpose training my dogs (besides the fact that she dislikes the leash hitting her in the face! etc). :)

  • AWESOME!

We've got our first trial in a couple weeks (Obed/Rally)!!!

  • Cool! I'd love to hear how it goes. :) Good luck. We'll keep our paws crossed!

  • LOL I wasn't referring to that really... I was more referring to the fact that the dog is so well trained that Kiko would have acted the same on leash as off... if the leash wasn't there, the picture would have been the same! (cept maybe him squinting from being hit in the face... just kidding)

  • Actually I train off lead, so if i was a better dog trainer we should work more on lead... but yay! no more lead in Rally!

  • Awesome job! My Malinois has his RE title (and CD) but I am not sure he ever looked that good doing it. It's funny... your leash looked like it was in your way more than anything... like it would have been easier for you to do your work without it. We all know that is probably true.

    Kudos to you!

  • Yes, I am a dog trainer and I still dont know how to hold a leash without it hitting my dog in the face! :)

  • I've just watched a few of your videos and they are great, you have so much patience! I love the look of rally but I know I would confuse myself, lol. Great to see a little dog working :D

  • I love how you assume how everyone else trained their dogs because they had them on slip collars...

  • This was interesting to watch as I've never seen any Rally trials, and they seemed a bit confusing as to the set up, etc. Kiko did awesome!
