I think these are Otis - and perhaps Gen II - elevators. Here is a link to a to an article about the building's renovation and there is a picture of the elevators with Otis signs in front of them.

Built in 1923, this was home to the Steele Department Store. In 1966, the Fontius shoe store moved in and remained until 1989. From then until 2007, the building sat mostly vacant except for some ground level stores. During those vacant years the building fell into disrepair and became an eyesore.
In 2008 the building underwent a restoration and renovation bringing back it's glory from nearly 90 years past and was renamed the Sage building.
In addition to these elevators, the building has a 60 year old freight elevator that remains and is used as a service elevator. I did not get to see this as I did not even know about it's existence as I filmed. You can see a picture of this jewel by going to the following link:

Once there, scroll down 8 rows of the pictures shown, you will see when you get there. The pictures are clickable for viewing a larger image.
I hate that too. Our city is notorious for buildings that have receptionists as soon as the elevator doors open. It's much better when it's just a corridor. Probably better from a security standpoint too since you're not right in their office space when you get off the elevator.
