During WWII 25,000 European Jews found refuge in Shanghai, China. They were settled in the neighborhood of Tilanqiao. To celebrate the unique Sino-Jewsish community that developed during the war, students of Architecture from Tongji University and Tel-Aviv University designed proposals for the preservation and development of the area. In October 2011, a joint seminar was held at "Ohel Moshe", the historic synagogue of the neighborhood, to mark the completion of the project. Work on the foundation of the Sino-Jewish Innovation Center is currently under way, aiming at bringing back cooperation between the two peoples to Shanghai.
