@FredrikGamborg Dear God i hope you replace that "stupid americans" comment

Prison is all about losing the basic principples of a human beings values.
The freedom to do whatever you want to, the freedom to go to church and pray.
The freedom to go to the mall, buy new clothes, eat sushi and so on.
This is the terrible part about being in prison, that you've basically lost your freedom.
That is punishment enough in my opinion.
That is why the prison system should be all about educating, rehabilitating, basically helping them back on track in their lives in general.

My previous comments have been disappeared for some reason, but I think I'll re-iterate my point: nice facilities alone do not make for a good or just prison, or a prison that reforms people and serves society positively. Very negative things can still go on even with the nicest trappings. Evil doesn't always take forms that you'd expect. The truth is, none of us really knows what goes on inside the walls of Norwegian prisons. But if you treat people with dignity, most respond to dignity.

@Morsam1995 True. I guess there are always exceptions or else the recidivism would be 0. There are many reasons why people return to prison.

Bite the bullet and fight it Mr Uygur - I normally back you sir , you are a cool man - but I don't think of prison should be a place of punisment (because otherwise it become a level of degree and who draws the line on that) - it just a place to keep bad people away from me so I (and everyone) else can be that much safer.

@johnson1095 You might get a TV, it depends on what prison you go to. More freedom? Doubt it. Better treatment? I guess. In a purely physical context. But there is more isolation in norwegian prisons. People handle isolation differently. In the major cities, you never share a jail cell with anyone, and that's mostly the case with prison cells too. Prisons are supposed to only have one prisoner per cell/room. But sometimes they might have 2 or more double rooms in case they need them.

@ThSkBj Umm.. There is many stories about criminals wanting to get into prison again..

I was in in prison when I was 19 for civil disobedience (because I misspell it seems) for 10 days (We have long sentences over here). It was utterly boring and I hated every second of it. Since we are used to relative luxery and freedom, loosing that really sucks. Thinking about a real sentence, like 10 years or so, makes my skin crawl.
And I did not have a flat screen tv and shit. Just a cell with a bed and a tv that turned of at 11. Thats not fucking amazing.

@Teenyme Yeah... I mean we're a culture of blood thirsty savages. Just look at the rates of child abuse.

but i would get better treatment then in a US prison right?
I would get a TV and more freedom right?

Think about it. If the prisons in Norway were as comfy as some people might think, then wouldn't criminals want to get back in to prison after being released? Now that's not what the recidivism rates tell us. Just saying. I know there are lots of factors coming in to play here, but in the end, prison is prison - even in Norway.
