I was fairly disappointed by this show. Living off the grid is not about spending a lot of money for a wind and solar system and putting it in your house. To make it work, you need to understand at least the basics.

Les devoted maybe 30 seconds to the technical aspects, claiming near-total ignorance. Any off-grid proponent should take the time to learn is at least the basics of how this works, and the basics of energy flow.

To simply hire everything done is not a sustainable practice.

By the way, any home built in the suburbs can go off grid with a walk to the Garage and open that gray box on the wall and flip that Main Breaker with a 150 to 250 on it, Presto you're off the grid in 5 minutes Enjoy, get your candles, cold showers, BBQ propane; Clothes line No need to go into the woods

I am not saying I'm living off the grid..

There are lots of reasons to go off the grid but most likely most will do it not to stop industry but change industry and just general way of thought of how to live together. If society doesn't give you the option you want, you have to create it yourself. But still this means comprimising, giving up certain things but gaining also.
