Panelist bios

Kyle Patrick Alvarez is an L.A. based writer/director. In 2010 he won the "Someone to Watch" award at the Independent Spirit Awards, where his debut film EASIER WITH PRACTICE was also nominated for "Best First Feature". The film received theatrical and DVD distribution early this year.


William Wheeler is a graduate of NYU's B. F. A. program where he studied acting and directing at Playwrights Horizons Theater School. His screenplay THE PRIME GIG was filmed by Tony winner Gregory Mosher, featuring Vince Vaughn, Ed Harris, and Julia Ormond. In 2007, Wheeler collaborated with director Lasse Hallstrom (THE CIDER HOUSE RULES) on THE HOAX.


Iris Yamashita is a Japanese American screenwriter who was nominated for an Academy Award® for her screenplay, LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA. Directed by Clint Eastwood, LETTERS received a Golden Globe award for "Best Foreign Language Film" of 2006 and was nominated for 4 Oscars®. Currently, she is working with K5 International and Convergence Entertainment on an original script, THE THREE LAWRENCES, to be directed by Shekhar Kapur (ELIZABETH, FOUR FEATHERS).

Prince Gomolvilas wrote the stage adaptation of the Scott Heim novel, MYSTERIOUS SKIN, which is currently running at East West Players in Los Angeles now through October 10. He is the recipient of the PEN Center USA Literary Award for Drama. He writes BAMBOO NATION, an arts and entertainment blog (bamboonation.blogspot.com) and teaches in the Master of Professional Writing Program at USC.
