@desimercenary depends on what you want to do but some basics about electronic components and electronic theory, basics of C programming and for start check out some arduino starter kit or something similar, or if you want to do everything yourself get some programmer for chip you want to learn about, breadboard, some components and a good book. if you survive first month, then you will learn faster and faster every day.
Cool thing but why you're using a camera for detecting colors?
Pretty high price for such a easy exercise.
You should take a photo transistor or diode which is in the wavelenght for rgb.
and a tiny micro controller cause it don't take so much power as a pc + servo interface
and it's pretty cheap.
