Before this law was passed, attorneys and/or real estate brokers used to demand CA homeowners to pay upfront for service fee for loan modification. After senate bill 94 came into effect, it is now illegal to accept or demand advance payment from homeowners for loan modification services. If you are hiring someone to do your loan modification, do not be a victim. Do not pay upfront. Anyone who demands for an advance payment as service fee for doing loan modification is clearly a scam artist. Don't be a victim!
