This video shows how to properly open a Seagate 750GB Expansion Portable USB2.0 external hard drive, and how to replace the old USB2.0 with a much faster USB 3.0 controller. The controller is taken from a Sharkoon Quickstore Portable USB3.0 external HDD, while keeping the original Seagate case.

Even though a USB3.0 is much faster, the bottleneck will be the drive speed. You can test its speed by connecting it to a SATA port on your motherboard and running a benchmark like ATTO Disk Benchmark. The results will be exactly the same as those you get through through the USB3.0 controller - up to 62 MB/sec.

See the video for the complete tutorial how to open the Sharkoon Quickstore Portable USB3.0 case and transfer its PCB into the Seagate case.

Original Device: Seagate 750GB Expansion USB2.0
HDD Model: ST9750430AS
HDD Interface: SATA
HDD Form Factor: 2.5"
HDD Height: 15mm
Donor Case: Sharkoon Quickstore Portable USB3.0

  • It's a 2.5" drive. You can see my previous video (the link is at the ending credits) to see more details about it.

  • @jonnieZG I'm having trouble finding the exact same Sharkoon QuickStore Portable Pro USB 3.0 for my Seagate 350GB Expansion at any website from Amazon to Newegg and i live in America... My Seagate was damage so I need to replace the inside any help mate.

  • @TwoBuLLetz Hi! You don't need the "Pro" version. Just "Sharkoon Quickstore Portable USB3.0". These are two different cases.
